Not many engineers can say they work across both Mechanical Design and Sustainability — but for Favad, it is simply part of the job. What does that look like in practice? An early morning workout, a well-planned day, and a genuine passion for tackling complex challenges head-on. In this edition of A Day in the Life of an Engineer at SEED Engineers, we introduce one of our Mechanical Engineers whose drive, curiosity, and broad technical expertise make him a valued member of the SEED Engineers team.
Meet Favad
Favad is a Mechanical Engineer at SEED Engineers, specialising in Mechanical and Sustainability (ESD) disciplines. With more than five years of professional experience, he has developed a broad understanding of how mechanical design and sustainability considerations work together to deliver buildings that are both functional and compliant.
Originally from the Malabar region of Kerala in southern India, Favad brings a diverse background and a broad perspective to his work at SEED Engineers.
Starting the Day with Intention
Favad’s day begins well before the office opens. He starts each morning with an early workout, a routine he credits with keeping his energy levels consistent throughout the day.
By 8:00am, he is at his desk reviewing his project list and calendar, planning how to make the most of the hours ahead. A firm believer in tackling the most demanding tasks first, Favad finds that addressing complex challenges early in the day gives him a greater sense of clarity and focus as the day progresses.
What Does a Typical Day Look Like?
Favad’s role spans two distinct but complementary disciplines, which means no two days are exactly alike. On any given day, he may be working across mechanical system design and documentation, conducting sustainability and ESD analysis, reviewing project requirements and compliance obligations, or coordinating across project stages and working through technical challenges as they arise.
This dual focus on both mechanical design and sustainability sets his role apart and allows him to engage with projects on a deeper level — understanding not just how a building’s systems function, but how they perform against broader environmental and regulatory benchmarks.
The Work He Is Most Proud Of
Among the many projects Favad has contributed to at SEED Engineers, one stands out as particularly memorable — a Bushfire Tenability Study completed for the Hammondville Aged Care Facility.
On this project, Favad made a significant contribution in helping the building achieve compliance with Specification 43 of the National Construction Code 2022 (NCC), which sets out requirements for internal tenability during a bushfire event. For a building housing some of the community’s most vulnerable residents, achieving this level of compliance carried real weight — and it is a project Favad looks back on with a great deal of professional pride.
What He Enjoys Most About His Role
For Favad, one of the most valuable aspects of working at SEED Engineers is the opportunity to work across both Mechanical Design and Sustainability on the same projects.
In many consultancies, engineers are focused on a single discipline. At SEED Engineers, Favad has the room to develop a more complete understanding of each project — something he sees as a genuine advantage for both his professional growth and the quality of outcomes he can deliver for clients.
Outside of Work
Away from the office, Favad is an avid football fan — both as a player and a spectator. He is also a self-confessed book lover, with a growing shelf of titles that he will be the first to admit do not always get finished. The buying, it seems, is half the joy.
When asked about his ideal superpower, his answer was simple: the ability to fly and see the world from above.
And if you happen to find him at his desk mid-morning, there is a good chance his snack of choice is a bowl of oats with banana, nuts, and honey.
Life at SEED Engineers
From tackling the toughest tasks first thing in the morning to contributing to outcomes that make a real difference for communities, Favad embodies what it means to be an engineer at SEED Engineers — technically capable, continuously growing, and genuinely invested in the work he does. We are proud to have him on the team.
