For Geoha, a Mechanical Engineer at SEED Engineers, that motivation has been the driving force behind a career built on precision, purpose, and a genuine commitment to the built environment. In this edition of A Day in the Life of an Engineer at SEED Engineers, we introduce a professional who brings both technical depth and a grounded sense of perspective to everything he does.

Meet Geoha

Geoha is a Mechanical Engineer at SEED Engineers, specialising in Mechanical and Sustainability Engineering. He has been with the company for more than three years and brings over five years of industry experience to his role.

His inspiration for entering the profession was rooted in something both practical and personal, the opportunity to apply engineering knowledge to the spaces that people move through and rely on every day. It is a motivation that continues to shape the way he approaches his work.

Starting the Day with Purpose

Geoha’s day begins at 7:00 am with a morning prayer — a personal routine he credits with setting a positive mindset, sharpening his focus, and preparing him for whatever challenges the day ahead may bring.

By the time he is at his desk, he is ready to hit the ground running. His first order of business is catching up on emails and Teams messages, mouse in his right hand, coffee in his left. It is a deliberate way of easing into the day: reviewing priorities, responding to urgent matters, and building a clear picture of what needs to be accomplished before the morning is out. He typically wraps up around 5:00 pm, though he is no stranger to staying back when a project demands it.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

Once priorities are established, Geoha turns his attention to the technical work at the core of his role. On any given day, this may include building simulation and energy modelling, mechanical services design and calculations, tailoring technical reports, or running CFD analysis and meteorological studies depending on the nature of the project.

His toolkit reflects the breadth of his discipline. He works regularly across DesignBuilder for heating and cooling load sizing, heat stress modelling, and energy analysis; Pyrosim for CFD analysis of carparks and kitchens; Calpuff for meteorological studies; Bluebeam for markups; and the full suite of Microsoft Office applications.

Time management is something Geoha approaches with intention. He dedicates focused blocks of time to design work, while also making use of multitasking where practical, for instance, progressing report writing while a simulation model runs in the background, a process that can take hours depending on the scale of the building being analysed.

Solving Real Problems for Real Clients

One challenge that stands out from a recent project involved the acoustic assessment of an axial exhaust fan for the carpark of a residential building. Despite selecting a fan with one of the lowest available noise ratings, the predicted noise levels at receiver locations still fell short of the project’s acoustic requirements.

Working closely with his mentor, Rob Lord, Geoha reviewed the acoustic calculations and investigated different silencer configurations and orientations, an approach that achieved compliance. Recognising, however, that silencers would significantly increase the project cost, the team explored an alternative: acoustic louvres. After recalculating the predicted noise levels, acoustic louvres were confirmed to meet the required compliance criteria while offering a more economical solution for the client.

It is a strong example of what good engineering looks like in practice, balancing technical performance, regulatory compliance, and project cost, and knowing when collaboration is the key to delivering the best outcome.

The Most Rewarding Part of the Role

For Geoha, one of the most satisfying moments in his work comes when a software model he has built begins to closely mirror the 3D architectural imagery provided by the project’s architects. It is a moment that represents the convergence of technical rigour and creative design, and a reminder of why the work matters.

Outside of Work

Away from the office, Geoha’s world revolves around his family. He is a proud father of three children, all under the age of three, which, as he readily admits, sometimes makes home feel busier than work. His evenings are filled with playing, singing, dancing, and doing whatever it takes to bring a smile to their faces.

When it comes to sport, he is a passionate supporter of the Argentina national football team. And when it is time to sit down for a meal, nothing compares to authentic Kerala cuisine, in particular a classic beef fry from the culinary traditions of southern India.

A verse he carries with him: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13.
