Auburn Ambulance Station Fitout

The heritage building of the Auburn Ambulance Station is being transformed into a state of the art pub and restaurant. The work for the fitout involved designing energy-efficient and cost-effective mechanical services including VRF air conditioning system, energy-recovery air conditioning system, and kitchen ventilation system.

This involved CFD odour modelling to ensure that occupants of adjacent apartment building would experience no odour nuisance outside their balconies.

Veritech grease filters and COANDA hoods were used to ensure that no grease or odour (below compliance) is exhausted into the local atmosphere.

Client: Ambient Services Group
Work Type: Fitout Design. Design for Sub Contractors, Performance Approach
Sector: Hospitality (e.g., fast food store, cafe, restaurant, hotel, resort, pub, casino)
Size: 600sqm
Disciplines Engaged: Mechanical
The Challenges Faced
Being a heritage building, the structural integrity of the roof restricted the number of options during the mechanical services design. Additionally, due to the limited ceiling space, the roof was an important part of the design, as most of the mechanical equipment had to be placed there. Additionally, as a heritage building, the available electrical power supply was limited.

The building is surrounded by apartment building as well, which imposed a large risk of causing acoustic and odour nuisance to neighbouring building.

The Solution Provided
The mechanical equipment on the roof were supported using MonkeyToe platforms to support the weight distribution on the roof, additionally, the mechanical services within were carefully designed to maneuver within the timber structure inside the heritage building and avoid any damages.

With the limited electrical power supply, energy efficiency was in mind during the design. Energy recovery system that provided 100% outside air into the space while harvesting waste energy from exhaust air. Additionally, a heat recovery VRF system was designed to allow for high comfort levels along with relatively low energy consumption.

Our BIM skills have been utilised to 3D model the mechanical services ahead of the installation to avoid clashes and keep rework to a complete minimum
