Bass Hill Montessori – 330 Hector St, Bass Hill
At Bass Hill Montessori, located at 330 Hector St, Bass Hill, SEED Engineers took on the task of enhancing the performance of a new Childcare Centre. Our expertise in HVAC design and Section J analysis enabled us to boost energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and indoor air quality through innovative engineering solutions, including whole-building modeling and simulation. Our strategies incorporated a mixed-mode ventilation system, automated façade louvres, and VRF heating and cooling, ultimately resulting in improved building fabric.
Client: | Montessori Academy |
Background: | New Childcare Centre building with medical centre and gym tenancies |
Work Type: | HVAC Design and Section J Analysis |
Sector: | Childcare Centre |
Size: | Medium Project |
Disciplines Engaged: | Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability |
The Challenges Faced
The challenge (or rather the opportunity here) was to utilise the architectural design to propose an engineered HVAC design and building fabric that improved the performance of the childcare centre in terms of energy efficiency, thermal comfort and indoor air quality
The Solution Provided
Whole building modelling and simulation was used in this project to propose the most optimal HVAC strategy and demonstrate the expected outcomes. A mixed mode ventilation system was designed with the use of automated façade louvres to provide natural ventilation during favourable ambient conditions and a VRF system for heating and cooling. A secondary outcome of the energy modelling was an improved building fabric.
